A FRIEND LIKE PETER

Let me specially dedicate today's dose to real friends. Friends in who there is no guile. Friends who will go all out to see you progress. Friends that won't compete with you but rather compliment you. Friends that will applaud your success and be there when you are down in failure. Friends that people will teach evil against you and will laugh and turn it around for your good. Young man, you should desire such friends in your life. You should keep such friends close to your heart and be as opened as a book to them. I have a privilege of having few of such of which some stands out so tall among them like blood brothers. I have a friend, Peter Pelumi Ikubanni. A friend with such a heart as mine. A friend whose 98% of his thoughts on issues of life aligns with mine. A friend who can do all in his capacity to see you progress. We started more intimately in 2011 during our M.Eng Programme at the Prestigious University of Ilorin. Peter pushed me to be the best version of me academically. He is such an intelligent yet humble dude. We went through the thick and thin together. We were waiting for time of manifestations together.  We gave the best to the pursuit of excellence and our goal. We had challenges. We had days of hungers. We had periods of misunderstanding. We had struggles with Lecturers and all. We came to a point where our differences came in on our process path. The evidence of the fact that we are totally unique and our processes are similarly so. We have unique gifts and graces. We have a different path to become whatever God has for us. Though we are both academics, yet our uniqueness is evident. One is too outspoken, the other speaks fewer powerful words. Thus, we finished M.Eng programme in different year though we came in same time. The issue may have caused some friends to path ways by jealousy and envy. Yet, our bond to see each other progress was more vehement. I got my M.Eng. in 2013, he got his in 2014. We had a discussion one day and I remember saying that I may finish the programme before you, its never a guarantee that I will get good Job before you. And it does not mean you will have PhD before me and the likes. We understood that God is taking us through a different Process Path. The reality set in. He got a Lecturing Job before even getting statement of his M.Eng. Result while I was still teaching in a Secondary School with my M.Eng. Cert. That is how God works. His own time to celebrate him came. I was glad as he was glad for me. When he was down with his MEng Project, I was available and all through my waiting period which was like 6 years after MEng, He was also there in words and actions. His support lifted me. We began a bigger collaborations. Our Career path is similar. Thus, we worked together all along. I got my PhD in 2018. Yet, he is having his own TODAY, 2022. Our path is totally different in life. While I gained speed in an area. He has speed in another. He is a leading part of the TOP 500 best Researchers in Nigeria for four consecutive years now, and he is always ahead of me. The joy in our heart is so great. We are becoming something great together on same path in different ways. Today is unique because A UNIQUE BEING is getting his PhD(Mechanical Engineering). Peter is a goal getter. He never give up. It was a long journey to today. It was an up and down one. But he is a persistent and diligent person. I am so glad and happy today because his work produced Seven Top Papers listed at the end of this dose. His work ethic is amazing. His sacrifice is amazing and thank God for such amazing personality. He has over 100 academics Publications with more than 85 indexed in Scopus (https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=57195291443). His due diligence had birthed these great things. He is above all a lover of God. A friend in need and a friend indeed. No inch of competition in him. None. No jealousy. Chai, when you have a friend like Peter, be sure that God has empower your journey with a leap. I remember a Professor told him when I wanted to join Landmark University after my PhD that if I come, I will be his boss! That he was not thinking right. He had no PhD and the person coming has papers and PhD, he was told that I will rise early and leave him. Waoh, another "friend" will block such move. He gladly said let him be my boss sir. The sky is too wide for all of us to fly sir. And so I got the appointment. Don't block your friend from opportunities. Don't be envious of their progress. Their progress is yours. Their progress will give yours speed. Whenever you notice envy and jealously from the so called friends, shift ground. Redefine your relationship. Today, I  am where I am though got my PhD 2018, he got his today, 2022 with super duper testimony. While I am always proud that I have 15 articles and a Patent from my PhD, he got 7 from his. The super duper testimony is that ALL were PUBLISHED while on his PhD while I got 2 while on MINE. Majority of mine were published after my program (see the details of our articles as appended to this dose). You will notice another amazing pattern of friendship in there. He featured in nearly all of mine. I also featured in all his. The glad news is that several articles are still under review and development together again. We have published more than 70 papers together now. We have come to learn that complimentary effort helps in lifting each other. We have come a long way together. Thanks for being an amazing friend on the path of destiny and what God is forming us to be for his glory. To be candid, young man, you need a Peter in your life. I mean you need a friend who is not envious and jealous of your progress. A friend who will never compete with your becoming but compliment you and provide pathway for your greatness.
