Yesterday’s Glory Is Already Ash, Move Forward
Young man, life has a way of trapping men in the illusion of past successes. Many bask in the glow of yesterday’s achievements, forgetting that the world moves forward, and God desires continuous growth. The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace. This is a divine proclamation that no matter how magnificent the past was, there is always a greater dimension ahead.
A man who once killed an elephant with a mere cap may be celebrated for a day, but soon, the world forgets. The same people who applauded him will look for the next great feat, and if he remains stagnant, his name fades into history. Yesterday’s glory is like as. It has burnt out, it is spent, it has no substance left to sustain the future.
God is interested in where we are going and what we are becoming. The danger of dwelling in past accomplishments is that it blinds a man to the new doors God is opening. Young men must recognize that their strength is not in what they have done but in what they are yet to do. A farmer who rejoices over last season’s harvest but fails to plant anew will face a season of famine.
The principle of growth is embedded in God’s design. The sun does not stop shining because it shone yesterday. The river does not stop flowing because it once watered the land. A man must keep pressing, keep learning, and keep evolving. Yesterday’s testimony is an encouragement, not a dwelling place.
Arise! Move forward! The former glory was great, but the latter will be greater if you do not become complacent. Do not sit in the ashes of yesterday’s fire; ignite a new one. God is not done with you yet!
