The Fatal Error of Self-Reliance
One of the gravest mistakes a young man can make is to believe that his strength alone guarantees victory. It is equally deceptive to think that swiftness ensures success in a race or that wisdom alone brings sustenance. This is a dangerous illusion. Intelligence may open doors to riches, and understanding may attract favor, but to rely solely on them is a fatal error, one that could leave you stranded in mediocrity or irrelevance.
God’s divine plan is entirely in His hands. The moment you shift your focus to self-reliance, trusting in the flesh, intellect, or abilities, you will find yourself chasing shadows and catching nothing. Any achievement rooted in human strength is fleeting. What is possible by man is ordinary and limited, but what is established in God is enduring and supernatural.
Strength is never a guarantee of victory; in fact, it can become the very reason for failure. By strength shall no man prevail. History has shown that mighty warriors have fallen, and men of charisma and power have died unfulfilled.
David Jesse, the shepherd boy, stepped onto the battlefield against Goliath not as a warrior, but as a seemingly weak and unarmed young man. Goliath, in his arrogance, was enraged, cursing David as if he were a mere dog. Even David’s own people feared for him, mourning what they assumed would be his certain defeat. They forgot a profound truth: The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise. Victory, provision, and favor are not dictated by human capability but by God’s divine orchestration.
Young man, your certificates do not define your future. Yes, acquire them, but lay them at God’s feet. Do not make the mistake of trusting in them. Your skills and talents are gifts, let God take the lead in their use. Engrave this truth on your heart: your strength does not guarantee victory in battle.
Consider Israel’s defeat at Ai. They had conquered mightier nations, yet this small village dealt them a crushing blow. Why? Because they went into battle alone, without God. Sin had separated them from Him, and their physical strength could not sustain them. They lost miserably to a weaker enemy until they turned back to God.
Young man, never trust in your own strength. Lean on God, and He will carry you into the fulfillment of His divine purpose. In Him alone is true and lasting victory.
